“Receiving this bursary has directly supported my future plans, equipping me with the skills to both join new collaborative projects and shape my own research direction. It allowed me to visit Dr Julia Liu’s laboratory at the University of Minnesota, where I gained practical, hands-on experience in mitochondrial and cardiovascular biology techniques, including mitochondrial bioenergetics and calcium retention capacity assays. Alongside learning these protocols to help set them up in my home lab, the visit gave me the chance to build a good working connection with Dr Liu and her team. “Attending the European Peptide Symposium (EPS) in Vienna was a hugely valuable experience for both my research and personal development. Presenting my poster allowed me to discuss my work with researchers from across the international peptide community and have several highly informative scientific discussions that provided new perspectives and ideas relevant to my research. I also made many valuable new connections and significantly broadened my professional network, which has been particularly rewarding as an early-career researcher. Beyond the scientific and networking opportunities, attending EPS gave me a real sense of being part of the wider peptide research community and helped build my confidence in discussing and presenting my work.
