Simon completed his BSc and MSc at the University of Auckland in New Zealand and his PhD at the University of Cambridge in the UK. After post-doctoral periods in Nijmegen (The Netherlands) and Sheffield (UK), he moved to the University of Manchester in 2002. He is currently Professor of Organic Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry. His research interests fall mostly in the area of supramolecular chemistry within membranes, which includes the development of synthetic signal transducers and ion channels. He also has a range of collaborative projects in materials chemistry with industry and local hospitals.
