The 9th International Symposium on Foldamers officially came to a close on 3 September 2025 after three days of engaging talks, poster presentations, a banquet, a WISC Breakout Session, and networking opportunities that brought together over 110 participants from around the world.
With more than 30 talks and 40 poster presentations, topics spanned from designing carbohydrate foldamers to post-translational modifications of protein backbones. A keynote lecture sponsored by the New Journal of Chemistry was delivered by Professor Chris Hunter (University of Cambridge) on “Folding, duplex formation and replication of synthetic oligomers.”
The symposium also supported over 20 early career researchers through bursaries, enabling them to attend and develop their research careers.
The event concluded with closing remarks from Professor André Cobb, Director of FoldNetUK, who also announced the three sponsored poster award recipients:
- Buchi Poster Award: Anca-Luiza Cotirlan, University of Cambridge
- CellPress Poster Award: Lisa Gourdon-Grünewaldt, Ludwig-Maximilians Universität
- Teledyne Technologies Poster Award: Radha Tomar, University of Bordeaux
“This meeting demonstrated the far reach of foldamers and their impact. We thank all of our speakers and poster presenters for showcasing their exciting research so clearly. I know of several instances where potential new collaborations resulted, which was a key aim of this – and indeed – any conference. I was also very pleased to see so many attendees from all over the world. We have several other smaller meetings planned as part of the Network which we will advertise in due course, but we are also very much looking forward to the next International Symposium in Budapest in 2027.”
— Professor André Cobb
The organising committee also extends its thanks to our sponsors, mic runners, timers, chairs, operational support, and all participants for making the 9th International Symposium on Foldamers such a success.
The 10th International Symposium on Foldamers will take place on 1-3 September 2027 at the HUN-REN Research Centre for Natural Sciences in Budapest, Hungary.
