Focus Workshops (FWs) are fully funded one day meetings designed to drill down into a more specialised topic suggested by Network members. The topic would normally fall into one of the three themes and if successful would be organised by the proposing institute with help from the Network and the relevant theme leader.
The purpose of FWs is to drill down into the subject area in order to stimulate collaborative research and grant applications. For example, one of these could be on foldamers that bind to metallic surfaces, bringing together both theorists and experimentalists. The events will again involve national and international speakers (remotely) and provide Network members with the opportunity to present their work. We will give preference to workshops that reach out to new communities and industrial partners. In order to contribute to the sustainability of the Network, organisers of FWs will be asked to exploit opportunities for co-funding where possible (as described in Section 9) but we would not want this caveat to be restrictive. We aim for each FW to be attended by about 20 UK delegates and that they would also be broadcast on-line to others via software such as Microsoft Teams.
To apply for this opportunity, you must be a member of the foldamer network (select “Join Network” above), and work within the UK. FWs must be held in the UK (either in academia or industry). Note that awards are made of up to £4500.
Proposals are assessed by the International Advisory Board.
Applications for the current funding round closed on 31 July 2025. Applications will reopen on 1 September 2025.
